The Big Island of Hawaii

The Big Island of Hawaii

The Big Island is the biggest of the Hawai'ian Islands, and it is still growing. As the youngest island in the Hawai'ian chain, it offers many micro climate environments and unrivaled natural wonders for the visitor to discover. On the Big Island you will find Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, Mauna Kea, the tallest sea mountain in the world at more than 33,000 feet, Mauna Loa – the most massive mountain in the world and the largest park in the state – Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. The Big Island boasts all but two of the world’s climate zones, generating lush rain forests to volcanic deserts, gorgeous black sand beaches to mighty snow-capped mountaintops.

The Big Island’s diverse landscaping from the jagged lava fields set up against lush green golf courses provides a beautiful contrast of green and black. The west side of the island is the dry side and where you will find the quaint tourist town of Kailua and many condo properties and hotels up and down the coast, from budget to luxury. The charming historic city of Hilo is located on the east side which is considered the wetter side of the island, but because of this, the scenery is lusher, greener and gorgeous!
